Delhi Police Foils Snatching Operations with Arrest of Active Criminal

New Delhi, April 4: In a crucial initiative aimed at tackling the increasing incidents of theft and snatching, the Special Staff of the East District of Delhi Police successfully arrested a known snatcher, which led to the resolution of several cases and the recovery of stolen items, according to officials.
According to a statement from the East District police, "An active snatcher was apprehended by the Special Staff, resulting in the resolution of five snatching cases from PS Pandav Nagar and PS Mayur Vihar. A total of Rs 40,000 in cash was recovered, along with two motorcycles used in the crimes."
The suspect, identified as Bablu, was captured following specific intelligence and extensive surveillance, which ultimately led to this breakthrough.
This operation was executed under the guidance of Inspector Jitendra Malik, IC/Special Staff/East, with oversight from Sh. Pawan Kumar, ACP/Ops. The team, which included HC Himanshu, HC Naresh, Ct. Rajeev, Ct. Sanoj, and Ct. Himanshu, conducted thorough fieldwork in plain clothes in areas prone to crime. They activated local intelligence networks and employed technical surveillance to track suspicious activities.
On Wednesday, acting on a tip-off, the team set a trap and arrested Bablu near Noida Link Road, close to the Noida U-Turn under the Akshardham Flyover in Delhi. Upon his arrest, Rs 40,000 in cash was found on him, along with one motorcycle used in the crimes. A second motorcycle associated with the criminal acts was recovered in the vicinity. The cash was linked to FIR No. 76/2026 U/S 304(2) BNS, PS Mayur Vihar.
"All legal procedures were properly followed as per DD No. 113 U/S 35(1)(E) & 106 BNSS dated 02.04.2026, PS Pandav Nagar," the police stated.
Further questioning of the suspect is ongoing to determine his involvement in additional cases and to facilitate further recoveries.
Bablu, 40, a daily wage laborer from Madangiri, is reportedly illiterate. His criminal history includes FIR No. 30/2007, U/S 399/402 IPC & 25/54/59 Arms Act, PS Malviya Nagar, and FIR No. 12/2014, U/S 379 IPC, PS C.R. Park.
This arrest has led to the successful resolution of five snatching cases.
The East District Police reaffirmed their dedication to public safety, stating that this operation reflects their commitment to ensuring safety and controlling crime, highlighting the effectiveness of ongoing surveillance and intelligence-driven policing.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Rajeev Kumar, stressed that ongoing investigations are focused on dismantling similar criminal networks in the region.
