Clever Thieves Execute Bold Heist in Katihar

In a shocking incident in Katihar's bustling market area, a group of cunning thieves disguised themselves as police officers to carry out a significant robbery. Posing as law enforcement, these fraudsters deceived an elderly woman with false promises of safety and made off with gold jewelry worth lakhs in broad daylight.

Details of the Deceptive Scheme

The incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of the local police station. A 58-year-old woman named Sheila Agarwal stepped outside her home to dispose of some trash when a young man approached her. He informed her that an officer wanted to speak with her, pointing to a masked individual nearby who claimed to be a police officer.

Creating Fear and Executing the Trick

The impersonator instilled fear in the woman, warning her about the rising incidents of theft in the city and questioned why she was wearing so much jewelry in public. Alarmed, Sheila removed her gold chain and bangles. The thieves then cleverly pretended to wrap her jewelry in a piece of paper and handed her a small packet. Upon returning home and opening the packet, Sheila was devastated to find only fake items inside.

Value of the Stolen Jewelry

The stolen jewelry was estimated to weigh between 8 to 9 bhari (units), valued in the millions. Three criminals were involved in this heist, arriving on a hunter motorcycle, which they used to flee the scene.

Police Response to the Incident

A case has been registered at the local police station. Authorities are currently scrutinizing the CCTV footage to identify the motorcycle's license plate number and the faces of the suspects.
