Clever Thieves Execute Bold Heist in Katihar

A shocking incident unfolded in Katihar's bustling market area when cunning thieves disguised as police officers executed a significant robbery. Posing as law enforcement, these fraudsters deceived an elderly woman with false promises of safety and made off with gold jewelry worth lakhs in broad daylight.

Details of the Deceptive Scheme

The entire episode was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, instilling fear throughout the neighborhood. Let's delve into how the con artists ensnared their victim.

According to reports, this incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the local police station. The 58-year-old victim, Sheila Agarwal, stepped outside her home to dispose of some trash when a young man approached her, claiming that an officer wanted to speak with her. A masked individual stood a short distance away, introducing himself as a police officer.

Creating Fear and Executing the Trick

The fake officer instilled fear in the woman, warning her about the rising incidents of theft in the city and questioning why she was wearing so much jewelry in public. Alarmed, she removed her gold chain and bangles. The thieves then cleverly pretended to wrap the jewelry in a piece of paper and handed her a small packet. Upon returning home and opening the packet, Sheila was devastated to find only fake items instead of her real jewelry.

Value of the Stolen Jewelry

The stolen jewelry was estimated to weigh around 8 to 9 bhari (units), valued in the lakhs. Three criminals were involved in this incident, arriving on a hunter motorcycle, which they used to flee the scene.

Police Response

A case has been registered at the local police station. Authorities are currently scrutinizing the CCTV footage to identify the motorcycle's license plate number and the faces of the suspects.
