Patna, April 16: Authorities have apprehended an Assistant Engineer in Purnea district, Bihar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000, as reported on Thursday.

The individual, identified as Bhushan Prasad, is associated with the Bihar Education Project and was caught in the act by a Vigilance team. This arrest was prompted by a complaint from Nandan Kumar Jha, a local resident of Hemnagar village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sarsi police station.

As per the complaint, Jha was overseeing the construction of a school building in Minapur within the Dagrua block. The engineer purportedly requested a 6% commission based on the Measurement Book (MB) value. It is alleged that he had already received payments in parts and demanded an additional ₹10,000, insisting that he would not sign the Measurement Book without receiving the payment.

In response to the complaint, the Vigilance team initiated a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at their police station in Patna and set up a sting operation. The engineer was apprehended while accepting the bribe.

Officials have stated that Bhushan Prasad is currently undergoing interrogation, and further legal actions are in progress. He is scheduled to appear before the Vigilance Court in Patna on Friday.

The Vigilance Investigation Bureau has ramped up its anti-corruption efforts, conducting regular raids and making arrests throughout the state. Authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to taking stringent measures against officials engaged in bribery and the abuse of power.

Previously, on March 13, the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau detained another government official in a bribery case in Bettiah, West Champaran district. Anurag Abhishek, a Field Officer at the District Dairy Development Office, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 within his office.

This action followed a complaint from Bablu Kumar, a resident of Gaunaha. A special vigilance team from Patna executed a raid in the Banuchhapar area, leading to the arrest of the accused official.
