Arrest of Assam Satradhikar Over Sexual Assault Allegations

Allegations Lead to Arrest in Sivasagar

Sivasagar Police initiated an investigation and interrogated the suspect for nearly seven hours before making the arrest.


Sivasagar, July 9: The Deka Satradhikar of Salaguri Satra in Assam's Sivasagar district has been taken into custody following serious allegations of sexual assault from a 19-year-old victim.


The individual accused, Kritikamal Dev Goswami, who is the son of the Satradhikar, faces charges of sexually assaulting the victim over an extended period of nearly four years.


As per the allegations, the abuse reportedly commenced in 2022 when the victim was still a minor and persisted thereafter.


In response to the complaint, the Sivasagar Police commenced an inquiry, questioning the accused for about seven hours before his arrest on Wednesday evening.


According to police sources, Goswami has been charged under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.


Additionally, a charge under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code is also being applied in this case.


The accused was presented before the appropriate court on Thursday. At the time of this report, there was no official statement from the police regarding the arrest.











The victim, known locally for his performances in traditional bhaona, alleged that he was subjected to repeated sexual abuse by the accused during this time.


He also claimed that Goswami recorded several private videos of him using a mobile device.


In his complaint, the survivor stated that when he tried to discuss the issue with Goswami's parents, they allegedly threatened him and attempted to bribe him to keep silent.


Seeking justice and protection, the complainant reached out to the Sivasagar Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on July 6.
