On Saturday, Indian cricket icons and notable players conveyed their Independence Day wishes to the nation, utilizing social media to commemorate the 80th anniversary of India's freedom. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, posted a photo of the Indian flag with the message, "Happy Independence Day!" T20I captain Shreyas Iyer also shared his greetings on X, stating, "Happy Independence Day." Anil Kumble, the renowned spin bowler, expressed his wishes with a simple, "Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind." Mithali Raj, the former captain of the women's cricket team, added her voice, saying, "Wishing everyone a very Happy 80th Independence Day!" Rohit Sharma, the former captain, shared an Instagram story featuring himself in the Team India jersey, proudly declaring, "Always proud to carry the Happy Independence Day!"
These cricketers joined millions across the nation in celebrating the spirit of Independence Day.
PM Modi's Vision for the 2036 Olympics
In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's goal to host the 2036 Olympics during his address on the 80th Independence Day. He introduced a nationwide talent search aimed at discovering young athletes aged five to 15 years.
Speaking from the historic Red Fort, PM Modi highlighted the progress India has made in sports, positioning the country as a strong candidate for the Olympic bid. He noted that while there are approximately 40 sports and around 325-350 events in the Olympics, India currently does not compete in or qualify for nearly two-thirds of them.
The Prime Minister stated, "In 2030, India will also host the Commonwealth Games. We have resolved that the Olympics 2036 should take place in India. We will focus on disciplines where India has not yet participated or qualified, launching a talent hunt campaign to address this gap."
He stressed the importance of nurturing young talent, particularly those aged five, ten, or fifteen, to prepare them for the upcoming Olympics. PM Modi remarked, "We must pay attention to our sons and daughters. Therefore, a talent hunt campaign will be conducted in every village, city, and school to identify sporting talent among children aged five to 15."
The identified talents will receive specialized training to equip them for representing India at the highest levels of competition. "Their talent will be recognized, and after providing them with specialized training, they will be prepared to become excellent players representing the country," PM Modi concluded.
