Former Indian cricketers VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble also shared their heartfelt wishes. Laxman expressed, "Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and successful New Year. May 2026 bring peace, purpose, and progress." Kumble added, "Warm wishes for a happy and healthy New Year to everyone. Here's to new beginnings and a prosperous 2026 for all!"

Jay Shah's Path to ICC Leadership

In December of the previous year, Jay Shah was appointed as the new chairman of the ICC. He was elected unopposed in August 2024, being the only nominee after Greg Barclay opted not to pursue a third term. Barclay had served since November 2020, and Shah acknowledged his significant contributions during that period.

Before his ICC role, Shah had a rich background in cricket administration, starting in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Notably, he oversaw the construction of the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, he became the youngest honorary Secretary of the BCCI.
