Strengthening the Opposition in Assam

Nazira, June 9: The State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Kanak Gogoi, has urged key leaders from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Raijor Dal, and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) to unite in order to bolster the Opposition against the ruling BJP in Assam.

According to Gogoi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has not effectively addressed the pressing issues facing the State, instead opting to create distractions. He criticized the government for its inability to safeguard public welfare and property, emphasizing the need for Gaurav Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and Lurinjyoti Gogoi to collaborate in fortifying the Opposition's stance against the BJP.

He proposed that these leaders should work together to develop an alternative economic strategy that includes participation from all Left, democratic, and secular factions in Assam.

The CPI is part of the United Opposition Forum in Assam, which aims to challenge the BJP in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. However, the coalition has faced challenges, with reports of internal conflicts among its 18 member parties, including Congress, Raijor Dal, and AJP.

Gogoi expressed concern over the current political climate, stating that the NDA government is undermining the Indian Constitution and democratic principles.

He also mentioned that the recent 22nd triennial conference of the Sivasagar district committee of the CPI, held in Nazira, adopted 11 significant resolutions addressing various local issues. The conference resolved to initiate a more vigorous democratic campaign in support of the party's objectives.
