Support for TVK Amid Political Dynamics

The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) have pledged their unconditional backing to the Tamilaga Vettir Katchi (TVK) for establishing a government in Tamil Nadu. Following an executive meeting, CPI's state secretary Veerapandian announced during a joint press conference that this decision was made in respect of the public mandate. He acknowledged the fluctuations of democracy and stated that the decision aligns with these principles.

Veerapandian mentioned that TVK had reached out to CPI, CPI(M), and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). After discussions in their party meeting, they concluded that such fluctuations are a normal aspect of democracy. The people of Tamil Nadu have shown their support for TVK, and the decision was made democratically.

Concerns Over Delayed Government Formation

Meanwhile, the secretary of CPI(M) in Tamil Nadu, Shanmugam, expressed that the parties have united to prevent delays in government formation, avoid the imposition of President's Rule, and thwart the BJP's attempts to gain power 'through the backdoor.' He further noted that VCK has also indicated they would make a similar decision as CPI and CPI(M), and they are supporting TVK. VCK leaders are expected to provide updates soon.

Shanmugam highlighted that no party achieved an outright majority in the assembly elections, making the formation of a government essential. Pressure is mounting to establish a government by the 10th, as Joseph Vijay has communicated with both parties. If a government is not formed by that date, President's Rule will be enacted. The BJP is reportedly trying to infiltrate Tamil Nadu politics, prompting CPI and CPI(M) to support TVK to prevent this.

Commitment to Stability and Governance

He further clarified that the parties will not participate in the cabinet to ensure that re-elections do not occur. The decision was made to prevent any further elections. The parties have confirmed that VCK, currently holding an executive meeting, will also support TVK in forming the government. CPI(M) has officially expressed its 'support' for TVK in a letter aimed at establishing a government, while CPI has conditionally supported Vijay's party for 'stable, secular, and democratic governance' for the people of Tamil Nadu.

In a related development, a high-level committee meeting of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam party is being conducted online via Zoom to decide whether the party will support TVK.
