CPI(M) Criticizes Government Actions

New Delhi, May 31: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed serious concerns regarding the targeting of Bengali-speaking Muslims, claiming that these individuals are being unfairly singled out without proper verification.

The party has urged the government to follow established procedures when addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

In a statement released by the Politbureau of CPI(M), the party condemned the inhumane practices of 'push-back' and deportation of individuals suspected to be from Bangladesh.

“The government must handle those who have entered the country illegally in accordance with established protocols,” the statement emphasized.

Following the recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam, the CPI(M) accused the BJP-led state and central governments of specifically targeting Bengali-speaking Muslims, alleging that many have been forcibly sent back to Bangladesh without verification.

Reports indicate that even legitimate Indian citizens have faced arrest and deportation to Bangladesh, according to the party's allegations.

“Individuals who have been declared foreign nationals by tribunals, yet whose appeals are pending in higher courts, have also been forcibly sent back. This practice is unacceptable,” the statement asserted.

The CPI(M) further criticized the BJP-led Assam government for aggressively implementing communal policies and for its decision to arm 'indigenous people.'

“This decision poses significant risks and could have far-reaching consequences. It is the government's responsibility to uphold law and order and prevent illegal immigration. Resorting to deportation and arming select communities is not a viable solution,” the statement concluded.

The CPI(M) called for the government to refrain from using religion as a criterion for identifying illegal migrants.

“Those who have entered the country illegally should be granted a fair trial. Undocumented migrants, who arrive without malicious intent, deserve to be treated with respect and handled according to established procedures,” the party emphasized.
