Bhubaneswar: The latest wave of COVID-19 has seen the total number of cases in Odisha reach 45, with seven new infections reported, according to a health official on Sunday.

Currently, there are 33 active cases, following the recovery of 12 patients as of Saturday.

In response to the rising cases, the state has implemented measures to curb the virus's spread, adhering to directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Both state and district surveillance teams are actively monitoring instances of influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).

Health officials have been instructed to conduct COVID-19 tests on all SARI patients admitted to hospitals.

Positive samples from SARI cases will undergo whole genome sequencing through the ICMR's network of virus research and diagnostic laboratories. Individuals experiencing acute respiratory symptoms are advised to self-monitor and seek medical attention if their condition worsens, as per the ministry's guidelines.
