Court Sends Twisha Sharma's In-Laws to CBI Custody Amid Ongoing Investigation
Court Ruling on CBI Custody
A local court in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has ordered the custody of Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, and her husband, Samarth Singh, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until June 2. This decision follows the arrest of Giribala, which occurred just a day after she was interrogated for six hours by the investigative agency. During the hearing on Friday, the CBI requested a five-day remand for Giribala and an extension for Samarth, to which Giribala's attorney raised no objections.
Details of the Case
Anurag Srivastava, the lawyer representing Twisha's family, informed reporters that both Giribala and Samarth would remain in CBI custody until 2 PM on June 2. The CBI may seek an extension of their remand if necessary. Earlier this month, a session court granted Giribala anticipatory bail, but the Madhya Pradesh High Court revoked it this week, citing the factual aspects of the case and the allegations against her, paving the way for her arrest.
Background of the Allegations
Samarth had been missing since May 12, the day Twisha passed away, but he was apprehended after surrendering to a court in Jabalpur. Twisha's family has accused her in-laws, particularly Giribala and Samarth, of harassing her for dowry, which they claim led to her death. They also allege that Giribala, who is the president of a consumer court in Bhopal, tampered with evidence at the scene.
Defense Claims
During the high court proceedings, it was argued that Twisha was trapped in a dire situation at her in-laws' home. However, Giribala has denied all allegations against herself and Samarth, asserting that Twisha had substance abuse issues and questioning her mental health. Giribala accused Twisha's family of attempting to tarnish their reputation and influence the case.
