Upcoming Court Appearance for Accused

Guwahati, Dec 16: The seven individuals implicated in the Zubeen Garg death investigation are set to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Tuesday via virtual means.

The CJM had previously ordered their appearance on December 16 as part of case number 4084/2025. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) cited concerns regarding law and order, leading the CJM to permit a virtual presentation instead.

On Tuesday, CID teams will be present at Baksa and Haflong jails to provide the accused with copies of the chargesheet.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg's death has filed a detailed chargesheet with the CJM court, identifying seven suspects, four of whom are charged with murder.

Among those charged are Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the Northeast India Festival, Siddhartha Sharma, the singer's manager, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.

Additionally, Zubeen's cousin and a suspended Assam Police officer, Sandipan Garg, faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Two of the singer's personal security personnel, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, are charged with criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away under unclear circumstances on September 19 while swimming in Singapore, where he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival.

Throughout the investigation, the SIT has examined over 300 witnesses.
