Court Decision on Custody Extension

A court in Delhi has decided to extend the custody of Jaseer Bilal Wani, the primary suspect in the Red Fort blast case, for an additional seven days. Wani was presented in court as his initial seven-day remand, granted on November 27 by Principal Sessions and District Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna, came to an end today.

Background of the Case

Wani, a resident of Kazi Gund in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 17 in Srinagar. He is accused of being involved in a deadly car explosion that occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi on November 10, which resulted in significant casualties and damage.

Details of the Explosion

The explosion, which took place in a slow-moving car, claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals and injured over 20 others, with several vehicles being set ablaze. The incident occurred near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. Following the blast, the central cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labeled the incident a "terrorist act" and expressed condolences for the loss of life and property.

NIA's Ongoing Investigation

The NIA has arrested seven key suspects in connection with the Red Fort blast. Among them is Umar Un Nabi, who allegedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) inside a Hyundai i20 car. This case is linked to a sophisticated terrorist module that was uncovered by the Jammu and Kashmir police. Umar, a resident of Pulwama, was working as an assistant professor in the General Medicine department at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana.

Further Developments

The NIA has also seized another vehicle related to Umar, which is currently under investigation for evidence. So far, the agency has interrogated 73 witnesses, including those injured in the explosion.
