Judgment in a Notorious Case

A court in Bulandshahr has found five individuals guilty in a notorious case involving the gang rape and robbery of a mother and daughter that occurred in July 2016. Sentencing for the convicted individuals is scheduled for Monday.

On Sunday, Varun Kaushik, the Assistant District Government Advocate, reported that Special Judge Om Prakash Verma, who oversees cases under the POCSO Act, declared the five accused—Zubair alias Sunil, Sajid, Dharmveer alias Raka, Sunil alias Sagar, and Naresh alias Sandeep—guilty on Saturday.

The incident took place in the early hours of July 30, 2016, when some family members were traveling from Noida to Shahjahanpur to attend a relative's funeral. Around 1:30 AM, as they approached Dostpur village in the Bulandshahr Kotwali Dehat area, they heard a loud noise as if their vehicle had collided with something heavy. Upon stopping and exiting the car, they were surrounded by assailants who threatened them with weapons and forced them into a nearby field.

Kaushik explained that the assailants tied up the men with ropes and proceeded to gang-rape a woman and her 14-year-old daughter. He added that when the men attempted to resist, they were beaten, and the criminals fled after robbing the family.

The police had filed a charge sheet against six individuals in this case, but one accused, Salim, died during the legal proceedings. The Assistant District Government Advocate confirmed that the remaining five have been convicted, with their sentencing set to be announced on December 22.
