Court's Ruling on Allegations Against Lalu Prasad Yadav
A Delhi court declared on Friday that Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the RJD and former railway minister, along with his family members, operated "like a criminal gang". The court has formally charged them with criminal offenses related to an alleged land scam involving railway jobs. The Rouse Avenue court has scheduled the case for January 29 to address the charges, during which the statements of the accused will be recorded.
Special Judge Vishal Gogna, while issuing the order to frame charges, noted that there was a "widespread conspiracy" involving Yadav and his family. The court stated that the evidence presented by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was sufficient at this stage to proceed with the charges against the accused regarding their alleged involvement in the scam. On December 19, while hearing the case filed by the CBI against Lalu Yadav and others, Judge Gogna announced that the decision on the charges would be delivered on January 9 at 10:30 AM.
During the proceedings, the CBI submitted a verification report concerning the status of the accused, revealing that five of the 103 individuals named in the charge sheet had passed away. The CBI has filed charges against Lalu Yadav, his wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi, their son Tejashwi Yadav, and others in connection with the alleged scam. It is claimed that during Lalu Yadav's tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009, appointments in the Group-D category at the West Central Railway zone in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, were made in exchange for land gifted or transferred by individuals recruited in the names of Yadav's family members or associates.
The CBI also asserted that these appointments violated regulations and involved undisclosed assets, falling under the purview of criminal misconduct and conspiracy. The accused have denied the allegations, claiming that the case is politically motivated.
