Digvijaya Singh Cleared of Defamation Charges

A court in Hajipur, Bihar, has acquitted former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in a defamation case linked to comments he allegedly made about Baba Ramdev, dating back 14 years. This information was confirmed by his lawyer.


During the final hearing on Thursday, Abhimanyu Kumar, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of the civil court, declared Digvijaya Singh free from the charges. Singh participated in the court proceedings via video conferencing.


According to his attorney, Yuvraj Sunil Singh, the case originated in 2012 when BJP leader Prof. Ajit Kumar Singh filed a defamation complaint against Digvijaya Singh, claiming he was offended by the comments made regarding Baba Ramdev. The complaint was registered under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as case number C-1/2665/2012.


The lawyer noted that Ravi Shankar Singh represented the plaintiff in this case. He added that Digvijaya Singh had previously appeared in the Hajipur court to record his statement approximately 12 years ago when he was serving as a Member of Parliament, and the case had garnered significant media attention.
