Couple Arrested After 16 Years for Real Estate Agent's Murder in Maharashtra
Arrest of Suspects in Long-Standing Case
In a significant development, a couple allegedly involved in the murder of a real estate agent in Maharashtra's Palghar district has been apprehended after 16 years. An official confirmed the arrest on Friday.
The suspects, 54-year-old Dharmendra Ramshankar Soni and his 50-year-old wife Kiran Dharmendra Soni, were taken into custody in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. According to police reports, the murder occurred in April 2009 in Nalasopara East, located on the outskirts of Mumbai, following a dispute over commission payments.
Following the incident, a case was registered against the Soni couple and two others. While one of the accused was arrested earlier, the remaining three had been on the run.
Senior Inspector Shahuraj Ranaware stated that the Crime Branch Unit-3 of Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar police recently reopened the investigation, leading to the discovery of the couple in Mahu village, Indore district.
The couple has since been transported back to Nalasopara, where a local court has remanded them into police custody until December 22. The fourth suspect in the case remains at large.
