Police Officer Caught Accepting Bribe

A sub-inspector stationed at the Nawabganj police station in Gonda district was apprehended on Tuesday by the anti-corruption team of the Devi Patan division while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 at the development block office.

According to Inspector Dhananjay Singh, who leads the anti-corruption team, Harishchandra Mishra, a resident of Raghunathpur in Nawabganj, had filed a complaint on December 23 against five individuals, including Brijesh Yadav, for assaulting him at his home. Amar Patel, who was investigating the case, allegedly demanded money while threatening to escalate the charges against the accused.

Inspector Singh noted that Brijesh, feeling aggrieved by the sub-inspector's unlawful actions, reached out to the anti-corruption team. A plan was devised, and the officer was summoned to the Nawabganj development block premises to receive the bribe. Upon arrival, the victim handed over the ₹10,000.

The vigilant anti-corruption team promptly arrested him on the spot. They confirmed that the accused sub-inspector would be presented in a Gorakhpur court following the appropriate legal procedures. The officer hails from the Raunapar police station in Azamgarh district.
