Escape and Recapture of Govindachami
In a startling incident, Govindachami, who is serving a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Soumya in Kerala, managed to escape from the high-security Kannur Central Jail on Friday. However, law enforcement swiftly launched a search and apprehended him within a few hours.
Footage aired on television showed the convict being captured near a dilapidated building in Thalap, located within the limits of Kannur city. Notably, Govindachami is missing his left arm.
Reports indicate that he was hiding inside a well close to the abandoned structure. On February 1, 2011, he allegedly raped and murdered 23-year-old Soumya, who was traveling alone on a passenger train from Ernakulam to Shoranur.
Govindachami was found guilty of the brutal murder of Soumya, a case that shocked the nation and sparked widespread discussions about the safety of women in public transportation.
