The month of Sawan is revered as the time dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees often embark on the Kanwar Yatra during this sacred period, carrying holy water. However, this pilgrimage has been marred by numerous controversies in recent times. Participants frequently face harassment, and there have been instances of aggressive behavior among some devotees, raising concerns about potential disturbances during the journey. Incident in Muzaffarnagar

In a recent event in the Pur Kaji area of Muzaffarnagar, a man was arrested for allegedly spitting on a female devotee's Kanwar. According to police reports, this incident occurred on Monday evening as the woman was returning home from Haridwar with holy Ganga water and had stopped to rest in the Pur Kaji police jurisdiction.

Satyanarayan Prajapat, the Additional Superintendent of Police (City), informed reporters that a case was filed against the accused, identified as Usman, who was subsequently apprehended. He added that the police acted swiftly to manage the situation and calm the agitated pilgrims who had gathered at the scene.

Accused's Family Claims Mental Health Issues

The family of the accused has asserted that Usman is mute and suffers from mental health issues. Prajapat mentioned that the female pilgrim was provided with a new Kanwar, brought from Haridwar, to continue her journey. The police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to maintain peace during the Kanwar Yatra.
