RJD chief Lalu Prasad has found himself at the center of controversy following the circulation of a video on social media. In this clip, a picture of Dalit leader Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar is allegedly placed near his feet. The footage shows Lalu seated on a sofa, with the image positioned on a nearby couch. During this moment, a supporter enters the room holding Ambedkar's picture and places it at Lalu's feet while greeting him.
Political Reactions to the Incident
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary shared a video clip of the incident, which occurred while the former Chief Minister celebrated his 78th birthday earlier this week. Choudhary accused Lalu of showing disrespect towards Dalits, stating, "This is evidence that Lalu Prasad disregards Dalits and holds no respect for the community's most prominent leader. He could even place images of deities at his feet."
Further Criticism from BJP Leaders
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala commented that the disrespect towards Scheduled Castes and Dalits reflects the true nature of the RJD and its allies, including Congress and the BJP coalition. He emphasized that the act of placing Ambedkar's image at Lalu Prasad's feet demonstrates the core character of the RJD, which he claims is unconstitutional. According to Poonawala, the RJD prioritizes family rule and jungle raj over constitutional principles, repeatedly insulting Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Scheduled Caste community.
It has been over 36 hours since the video of Baba Saheb's disrespect surfaced. The entire Bihar is hurt by this video. Yet, there has been no apology from the RJD. However, Bihar has certainly witnessed the arrogance of Lalu Prasad's son Tejashwi.
