Telangana CM's Comments Spark Debate

Telangana's Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, has stirred controversy with his remarks regarding young journalists, accusing them of lacking basic respect for their senior counterparts. While discussing the media's role in society, Reddy stated, "To analyze, they (journalists) risk their health and family. To grasp the issues faced by the public, they venture into remote areas for days and remain in public to share their findings."

During the event, Reddy emphasized that young journalists seem unaware of the respect due to senior journalists, stating that they often do not stand when seniors enter the room. He expressed frustration at how young journalists sit in the front rows during press conferences, looking at him as if he is ignoring them. He humorously mentioned that sometimes he feels like slapping them, but refrains due to the circumstances.

Political Backlash Follows

Following his comments, Reddy faced backlash from opposition parties. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized him, referencing Rahul Gandhi's previous remarks about the Election Commission, suggesting that both leaders are insulting important institutions. Poonawalla pointed out that Reddy has made similar controversial statements in the past, including threats against those who do not recognize Indira Gandhi.

BRs leader Dasoju Sravan Kumar commented that Reddy speaks whatever comes to his mind and that the party disapproves of his statements. He questioned Reddy's qualifications as a public servant and expressed concern over the implications of his comments on journalists, urging Rahul Gandhi to intervene and suggesting that Reddy should not be the Chief Minister.
