Controversy Erupts Over New School Timings in Jammu and Kashmir

School Reopening Sparks Parental Outrage

As schools reopen after summer vacations, excitement among children is palpable. However, in Jammu and Kashmir, the reopening has ignited political debates. The government, led by Omar Abdullah, has shifted school hours to 7:30 AM, leading to dissatisfaction among parents. Given the intense heat currently affecting Kashmir, many parents had requested an extension of the summer break, but the government dismissed these appeals and proceeded with the reopening schedule. Interestingly, just hours after the announcement by the Jammu and Kashmir government, heavy rainfall occurred in the valley, bringing temperatures back to normal levels.

Parents Voice Concerns Over Early School Hours

In response to the new school timings announced by Education Minister Sakina Masood Ittoo, several parents criticized the decision by sharing videos online. These clips highlighted the challenges of waking their children at 5:30 AM to catch the school bus between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM. In defense, the education minister stated that future decisions would be based on the experiences gained from this trial.
