Dispute Over Rath Yatra Timing

A controversy has emerged regarding the timing of ISKCON's Rath Yatra in Odisha. The Kalinga Sena has accused the organization of violating the Jagannath tradition by scheduling the Rath Yatra at an "inappropriate time." On Friday, a social and political group from Bhubaneswar staged a protest outside the ISKCON temple, claiming that the organization ignored the appeal from the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri, Divyasingh Deb, who urged adherence to the traditions outlined in religious texts for celebrating the Rath Yatra globally.

Warnings Issued by Kalinga Sena

The Kalinga Sena has warned that devotees of ISKCON will not be allowed entry into Puri during the Rath Yatra on July 16. Additionally, the organization threatened to disrupt ISKCON's activities in Odisha if they celebrate any festival outside the traditional calendar.

Statements from Kalinga Sena Leadership

Speaking to reporters, Hemant Rath, the president of Kalinga Sena, stated, "ISKCON has no right to operate in Odisha as they have disrespected Gajapati Maharaja Divyasingh Deb, who is regarded as the chief servant of Lord Jagannath. Our activists will ensure that ISKCON members are not present during the Rath Yatra in Puri and Bhubaneswar." He further emphasized that despite repeated appeals, ISKCON has failed to adhere to the scheduled timings for the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

Call for Wider Opposition

The organization has urged the people of Odisha to oppose ISKCON in their respective areas. Kalinga Sena has also raised objections to ISKCON's annual Rath Yatra in Bhubaneswar, despite the temple having conducted this festival in accordance with the traditions of Puri's Jagannath temple for decades. This dispute centers around Kalinga Sena's claim that ISKCON is not following the established schedule for the Rath Yatra, leading to threats of protests and actions ahead of the celebrations on July 16 in Puri.
