Delay in Election Data Sparks Outrage

Thiruvananthapuram: A controversy has emerged following the Kerala Assembly elections, as detailed voting statistics have yet to be made public three days after the polls closed. V.D. Satheesan, a senior leader from the Congress party and the opposition leader in the state assembly, has formally requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to promptly release the official and certified data.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner, Satheesan pointed out that despite three days passing since the voting concluded, the official and certified figures are still not available on the commission's website. He emphasized in his April 12 correspondence that data regarding voting percentages, area-wise voting statistics, and postal ballot figures remain undisclosed.

Satheesan stressed the importance of timely publication of such information to ensure transparency, public oversight, and maintain trust in the electoral process. He urged the commission to publish the voting percentages and postal voting data on its official website without further delay. He noted that having verified information available in a timely manner is crucial for all stakeholders, including the public, researchers, and political representatives.

According to the Election Commission's website, the assembly elections held in Kerala on April 9 saw a voter turnout of 78.03%. A total of 883 candidates contested across 140 assembly constituencies, with the election results set to be announced on May 4.
