On Thursday, central minister Jitan Ram Manjhi responded to a viral video featuring Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attempting to remove a woman's hijab. He stated that Kumar's intentions were not malicious and emphasized that the situation should not be viewed through a religious lens. Speaking to the media, Manjhi remarked, "We should not interpret this incident in a religious context."

Viral Video Sparks Nationwide Outrage

Manjhi's comments followed the widespread circulation of a video from a government event in Patna, where Kumar was seen pulling the hijab of a woman while handing her a certificate. This incident has ignited anger across the country. The occurrence took place during a ceremony at the Chief Minister's office, where appointment letters were being distributed to newly appointed AYUSH doctors. Before the woman could say anything, Kumar reached out and pulled down her hijab, exposing her face and chin.

Omar Abdullah Criticizes Bihar CM

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sharply criticized Kumar over the viral video, stating that Kumar was once regarded as a secular leader, but his true colors are now being revealed. Abdullah labeled the incident as "unfortunate" and declared that such behavior is unacceptable. He referenced a similar incident during previous elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Political Reactions Intensify

Abdullah told reporters, "During the elections here, Mehbooba Mufti had a woman voter’s burqa removed at a polling station. That was unfortunate, and this is also unfortunate. Nitish Kumar was once seen as a secular leader, but now his true face is coming to light." Additionally, a complaint has been filed against Kumar and Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad at the Kaiserbagh police station in Lucknow regarding the viral hijab video, which has sparked outrage among leaders from various parties.
