Allegations Against M.K. Stalin in Tamil Nadu

Tiruchi: In a recent incident, members of the women's wing of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have filed complaints at five police stations in Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu, against former chief minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin. They allege that he made disrespectful comments regarding the party's candidate for the Dharapuram bypoll, P. Sathyabama, during his campaign.

The police confirmed that complaints were lodged at various stations, including Srirangam, Thillai Nagar, and the Government Hospital, with Community Service Register (CSR) receipts issued to acknowledge the submissions.

The complainants claim that Stalin used derogatory language to belittle Sathyabama while campaigning for DMK's Sukanya. They are calling for action against him, arguing that his remarks were demeaning to a female candidate.

According to the allegations, Stalin ridiculed Sathyabama's name and appearance in his campaign speech. The petitioners described his comments as offensive and humiliating, urging authorities to review the speech and take appropriate action.

This controversy has also led to a complaint from a group of lawyers who have reached out to the Election Commission, the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, the Chennai Police Commissioner, and the constituency's returning officer, requesting action regarding the alleged remarks.

The lawyers emphasized that no woman candidate should face ridicule or personal insults during an election campaign. Their petitions called for accountability against Stalin for the comments attributed to him.

The issuance of CSR receipts indicates that the complaints have been formally recorded. However, police have not disclosed any details regarding potential actions taken in response to these petitions.

This dispute emerged during the campaigning for the upcoming Assembly bypolls scheduled for October 6 in Dharapuram, located in Tiruppur district, and Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district, both of which are reserved for Scheduled Castes.

In Dharapuram, Sathyabama is contesting on behalf of the TVK against DMK's Sukanya, AIADMK's Bhanumathi, CPI's Lakshmanan, and Karthika from Naam Tamilar Katchi, among others.

Stalin's comments have sparked outrage among TVK supporters, who argue that the campaign has devolved into personal attacks against their candidate. The complaints submitted to police and election authorities focus on the language allegedly used in his speech.

The petitions have drawn attention to the campaign exchanges following polling, with complainants demanding accountability for remarks they view as insulting to Sathyabama. Any further proceedings will depend on the authorities' review of the complaints and the speech referenced by the petitioners.
