Controversy Erupts as Mehbooba Mufti Holds Upside-Down National Flag During Protest
Protest in Srinagar Raises Eyebrows
On the night of August 4, Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, sparked controversy during a protest in Srinagar. She was seen holding the national flag upside down, which led to significant backlash. The demonstration was organized outside the PDP office to oppose the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status through Articles 370 and 35A in August 2019, where Mufti was joined by party leaders and supporters.
Legal Action Considered for Flag Display
Officials stated that the national flag was mistakenly held upside down. They are now contemplating legal action against the PDP leader, as displaying the national flag incorrectly is considered a violation of India's flag code.
Understanding the Flag Code
According to regulations, the national flag must always display saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom. Additionally, a navy blue Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes must be placed on the white band.
