Controversial Transfer: Andhra IAS Officer Vikas Marmat Faces Backlash After Pub Incident
Andhra Pradesh Government Takes Action
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh administration has decided to transfer IAS officer Vikas Marmat amid a controversy stemming from an alleged altercation with law enforcement at a Bengaluru pub.
Previously serving as the Project Director for the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), Marmat has been instructed to report to the General Administration Department (GAD) for reassignment.
A government order issued by Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad confirmed that the transfer is effective immediately.
The Chief Secretary has tasked the Collector and District Magistrate of Chittoor district with arranging an interim appointment for the Project Director position at KADA.
This transfer follows an incident where the Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru filed a case against Marmat and three others after a confrontation with police officers during a late-night inspection.
The altercation took place around 1:30 a.m. on October 10 at a pub located on Residency Road in Bengaluru.
During routine checks at bars and restaurants, police requested patrons to show identification to confirm their ages. Marmat and his associates reportedly engaged in a heated argument with the officers, using abusive language and allegedly assaulting or threatening them while they were performing their duties.
A case was subsequently lodged against Marmat and the others at the Cubbon Park Police Station, following a complaint from Inspector Arun Salunke. The other individuals involved were identified as Abhay Uday Singh, Nitesh, and Roshan.
The complaint detailed that the group used offensive language, physically assaulted the inspector and his team, threatened them, and obstructed the police from executing their responsibilities.
The FIR was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including those related to causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and assault against public servants.
A video capturing the incident has circulated widely on social media platforms.
In response to the situation, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly ordered the IAS officer's transfer.
Marmat was in charge of overseeing development projects in Kuppam, which is the Assembly constituency represented by Chandrababu Naidu in Chittoor district.
