Controversial Teacher Surrenders Amidst Tensions in Patna Coaching Rivalry

Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, has surrendered at the Patna Civil Court today. This development comes amidst a backdrop of significant controversy and unrest surrounding his case. Following a shooting incident at the Khan Global Studies coaching institute in the Kadamkuan area, the Patna police registered a case against Khan for attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act. The situation escalated in the city, leading to considerable chaos late into the night. Police attempted to apprehend Khan at the coaching center, but hundreds of students present there rallied in his support, chanting slogans. Despite the police's efforts to maintain pressure throughout the night, they were unable to detain him due to the overwhelming student protests.

This incident is reportedly linked to a long-standing rivalry between two prominent coaching institutes. The competition between Faisal Khan of Khan Global Studies and Roshan Anand of Gyan Bindu Coaching has escalated into open conflict. The tensions began following the announcement of results for the Bihar police recruitment exam, with both institutes claiming to have the highest number of successful candidates and displaying posters throughout the city. Allegations arose that employees from Khan Global Studies placed their banner over that of Gyan Bindu Coaching, further intensifying the conflict.

The situation turned violent on the nights of June 2 and 3, with clashes, vandalism, stone-pelting, and gunfire reported between the two groups. A video from the incident went viral on social media, showing a security guard from Khan Sir's team firing a weapon. In response, police quickly initiated an investigation at Khan Global Studies, detaining two security personnel who were later arrested and sent to jail. Their firearms have been sent for forensic analysis.

During the police investigation, the security personnel allegedly stated that Faisal Khan instructed them to fire, saying, “You shoot, I will handle the rest.” Based on this statement, Khan's name was added to the FIR under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code. Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further legal actions will be taken based on the evidence collected.

Meanwhile, Khan Sir has consistently denied the allegations against him, asserting that the firing was an act of self-defense. He explained that due to the chaos and violence at the scene, the police might take time to arrive, prompting his security personnel to fire in self-protection. He questioned whether security guards should merely stand by during an attack. In a video shown to students, he claimed that the individual who forcibly took one of his guards has not yet been apprehended, suggesting that the focus is being diverted from the real issues.

Addressing the students, Khan Sir held up a book and stated, “I swear by knowledge, there was firing that day.” He further claimed that if attempts were made to shut down Khan Global Studies, coaching fees in the city would skyrocket. He emphasized that his goal is not merely profit but to provide affordable education to students.

In the aftermath of the incident, a significant police presence has been deployed outside the coaching institute. Authorities have attempted to disperse the students, but they remain steadfast in their support for Khan Sir. The situation in the city remains tense, with all eyes on the police's next steps and the resolution of this escalating power struggle in the education sector.

Additionally, the incident has gained political traction, with independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnia commenting that both Khan Sir and Roshan Sir should refrain from turning their coaching rivalry into a public spectacle. He noted that there are always individuals who seek to tarnish the reputation of reputable institutions, a phenomenon that is not new.
