Congresswoman Calls for Legal Action After Altercation with Activist
Incident Outside the Capitol
Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican congresswoman from Florida, has urged for criminal charges against an anti-war activist following a confrontation outside the US Capitol. In an interview with TMZ, she emphasized that physical altercations should not be part of political protests. Luna mentioned that she had reported the incident to the US Capitol Police, which reportedly took place after a congressional hearing featuring Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to Luna, an organizer from the anti-war group CODEPINK approached her post-hearing and questioned her regarding her dialogue with Rubio. "I was literally walking, trying to walk away from this person, and they smacked me," she recounted to TMZ. The congresswoman suggested that the incident was connected to her inquiries during the hearing about CODEPINK's alleged foreign funding.

Luna stated that multiple activists surrounded her as she exited the Rayburn House Office Building and continued to confront her while she tried to leave. Although she reported no injuries, she asserted that the incident crossed a significant boundary. "You don't touch anyone, especially if you disagree with their views. Physical harm is unacceptable," she declared.
She has shared her account with investigators and believes there is ample video evidence and witness statements to justify possible legal proceedings. Luna anticipates that an arrest will follow. The US Capitol Police commented, stating, "For safety reasons, we cannot discuss any potential investigations." As of now, CODEPINK has not issued a public response to the allegations. This incident occurs during a time of increased tensions surrounding US foreign policy discussions, which have led to numerous protests by activist groups on Capitol Hill.
