Congress to Challenge Modi Government on Key Issues in Upcoming Monsoon Session
Congress Plans to Address Major Concerns in Parliament
On Thursday, the Congress party announced its intention to confront the Narendra Modi administration on various pressing issues during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on July 20. The topics of concern include alleged misappropriation of donations for the Ram Temple, paper leaks, the systematic decline of the education system, inflation, and foreign policy challenges.
Additionally, the party revealed its strong opposition to proposed constitutional amendment bills related to delimitation and the removal of ministers and chief ministers, along with several other laws expected to be introduced during the session.
Strategic Meeting of Congress Leaders
This strategy was formulated during a meeting of senior Congress leaders held at the residence of Sonia Gandhi in 10 Janpath. Key figures in attendance included Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, and other prominent leaders such as P. Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, and Shashi Tharoor.
Following the meeting, Kharge shared on social media the issues the party intends to raise during the session. He highlighted concerns such as donation fraud, the deterioration of the education system, political corruption, rampant inflation, failures in foreign policy, and ongoing attacks on the rights of SC, ST, OBC, and minorities.
Focus on People's Concerns
Kharge emphasized that the meeting extensively discussed issues impacting people's lives and their aspirations. In a subsequent press conference, Jairam Ramesh, the party's communications in-charge, revealed that the central government is preparing to reintroduce the delimitation constitutional amendment bill, despite failing to secure the necessary two-thirds majority earlier this year.
Ramesh stated that they learned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is attempting to revive the delimitation bill, which faced significant setbacks on April 17 when the government could not achieve the required majority.
Discussion on Additional Legislative Proposals
The meeting also covered another proposed bill concerning the removal of ministers who are detained for serious crimes for up to 30 days. This reflects the Congress party's commitment to holding the government accountable on various fronts.
