Congress to Address Key Public Issues in Upcoming Monsoon Session
Congress Plans to Raise Public Concerns
On Friday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi announced that the party intends to bring up significant public issues during the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. He questioned whether the central government would focus on critical matters such as Ayodhya, the education system, the automobile industry, foreign policy, and the situation in Manipur. Speaking to a news outlet, Gogoi expressed concerns that the government might hinder the functioning of Parliament to avoid discussing these vital topics, indicating a lack of accountability from the administration.
Legislative Agenda and Coalition Discussions
Regarding the legislative agenda for the session, Gogoi mentioned that Congress would consult its INDIA coalition partners and other opposition parties to collectively decide on proposed bills. He emphasized the importance of addressing issues that significantly impact the lives of citizens. He raised concerns about whether the government would respond to questions regarding Ayodhya, education, the automobile sector, foreign policy, and Manipur, fearing that the administration might obstruct parliamentary proceedings to evade responsibility.
Opposition to the Delimitation Bill
Earlier on the same day, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari reiterated the party's stance on the Women's Reservation Bill, claiming that the Delimitation Bill is being introduced under its guise. In an interview, Tiwari stated that Congress would oppose the Delimitation Bill and revealed that party leader Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a multi-party meeting to discuss this issue.
Call for Multi-Party Meeting
Tiwari mentioned that they have urged the government to convene a multi-party meeting regarding delimitation. A similar letter had been sent previously, and it has now been reiterated. He clarified that Congress's position on women's reservation is firm; if delimitation is introduced under the pretext of women's reservation, the party will oppose it. On Thursday, Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president, requested a multi-party meeting to discuss the government's "amended proposals" concerning the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026.
