Khaund was formally welcomed into the Congress party at the party headquarters in the presence of senior leaders, including Jitendra Singh Alwar, the AICC general secretary in charge of Assam, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress observer for Assam, D.K. Shivakumar, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi, and National Secretary Manoj Chauhan. Gogoi, while welcoming Khaund, remarked that the inclusion of grassroots leaders like him reflects the growing public discontent against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership in Assam. He noted that a wave of political change is emerging in the state.
He mentioned that Jayanta Khaund from the Assam Gana Parishad had reached out to them a few days ago expressing his desire to join the Congress party, and today they are officially welcoming him and his associates. He accused the current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of arbitrary governance, promoting unqualified individuals in politics, and sidelining those who have worked hard in active politics for years. He stated that the current administration is only surrounding itself with individuals involved in corruption.
