Congress to Finalize Strategy for Upcoming Monsoon Session

On July 16, the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group will convene at the residence of Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, to finalize the party's approach for the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. Scheduled for 11 AM, this meeting will focus on the issues the party intends to raise and its overall parliamentary strategy for the session.

In a move to prepare for the session, the government has called a multi-party meeting on July 19, just a day before Parliament reconvenes. This gathering aims to discuss the legislative agenda and garner support from various political factions. According to officials, this traditional meeting, held before each parliamentary session, will also commence at 11 AM.

Anticipated Debates and Legislative Proposals

The Monsoon Session, which Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has indicated will run from July 20 to August 13, is expected to feature vigorous debates. The opposition is likely to raise several political and public interest issues, while the government will focus on advancing its legislative agenda. Rijiju announced on social media that, upon the recommendation of the Indian government, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the calling of both houses of Parliament for the Monsoon Session in 2026, which will also take place from July 20 to August 13, addressing matters of national significance.

During this session, significant legislative proposals are anticipated to be discussed in detail, as the government prepares to introduce key bills for deliberation. Given the recent disagreements among some opposition parties, there is a possibility of intense debates or confrontations. Additionally, a Joint Parliamentary Committee is expected to approve its report on the proposed 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill on July 17, which will then be presented in Parliament. This bill has sparked political debate due to a provision that would automatically remove Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and central or state ministers from office if they remain in judicial custody for serious offenses for 30 consecutive days.
