Congress President Meets Vice President Ahead of Monsoon Session

Before the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge met with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday, emphasizing the opposition's desire for a productive session. The monsoon session, which is set to last for a month, will commence on July 21. Following their meeting, Kharge posted on social media, stating that the opposition aims for a meaningful session in the Rajya Sabha starting July 21. He highlighted the need for discussions on various strategic, political, foreign policy, and socio-economic issues that are of significant concern to the public.

Sharing images from his meeting with Dhankhar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha mentioned that he had a constructive conversation with the honorable Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Kharge reiterated that the opposition is looking forward to a successful session starting July 21, which necessitates debates on various pressing issues that concern the public. He stated, 'Today, I met with the honorable Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, and we had a meaningful discussion.' The monsoon session is scheduled to run from July 21 to August 21.

On Tuesday, the Congress party referenced External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's recent visit to China, asserting the need for an in-depth discussion on challenges related to the neighboring country. They expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would agree to address these issues during the monsoon session starting July 21. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned why open discussions could occur in Parliament during the 1962 war but not today. Ramesh posted on social media that during a meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on July 14, 2025, Jaishankar noted that India-China bilateral relations have been improving since the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan last October, suggesting that a continued normalization of relations would be beneficial for both nations.
