Leadership Changes in Congress Ahead of Key Elections

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Congress party announced the appointment of Sachin Pilot as the general secretary responsible for Punjab, a crucial state gearing up for elections. He replaces Bhupesh Baghel, who has been reassigned to oversee Assam in the same capacity.

Additionally, Randeep Singh Surjewala has been designated as the general secretary for Gujarat, while still retaining his role in Karnataka, where a recent leadership transition occurred smoothly.

Punjab's elections are set for early next year, with Gujarat's assembly elections scheduled for later in the year.

K C Venugopal, the AICC general secretary for organization, confirmed in a statement that the Congress president has made several immediate appointments and reassignments of party officials across various states.

Sukhdeo Bhagat will now oversee Chhattisgarh, Dr. Sirivella Prasad will take charge of Maharashtra, and P V Mohan has been appointed for Andhra Pradesh.

Venugopal expressed gratitude for the contributions of outgoing General Secretaries/In-charges, including Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Chennithala, and Manickam Tagore.

Mukul Wasnik will remain in his position as general secretary of the AICC, as stated.
