Congress President Urges PM Modi to Focus on National Issues Over Self-Praise
Kharge's Call for Political Restraint
Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Congress party, has commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent public speeches following Operation Sindoor. He urged Modi to shift his focus from self-praise to addressing national concerns and to distance himself from election campaigning.
While addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Kharge stated, "I prefer not to respond to all of Modi's statements. However, I would request those in power to sometimes keep their mouths shut."
Kharge raised questions regarding Modi's recent public remarks and political activities, suggesting that the Prime Minister should temporarily step back from electioneering.
He emphasized, "Modi should separate himself from the elections and concentrate on the nation. He needs to speak with an understanding of what has transpired in the country."
Kharge added, "I say this without any political bias: instead of claiming that no one else can do what he does, he should focus on the adversary. Our full support lies with the armed forces."
Referring to the events related to Operation Sindoor, Kharge mentioned that a multi-party delegation has gone abroad for discussions. He remarked, "Let them return. Until they do, it is inappropriate to roam around and give speeches."
The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha reiterated the Congress party's unwavering support for the Indian armed forces. He also criticized Modi's statement claiming that the military has been given full authority.
Kharge questioned, "If Modi has stated that he has granted full rights to the armed forces, why is he claiming credit for it? Self-aggrandizement is not commendable."
Highlighting the need for political restraint during sensitive times, Kharge remarked, "We will not say anything, as the situation is not normal." He cited the example of restraint shown in the Pakistani parliament during previous tensions between India and Pakistan, stating, "When clashes occurred between India and Pakistan, discussions began in the Pakistani parliament about not speaking against the country."
He concluded, "As long as the armed forces are present, we are all safe. Therefore, we support the armed forces."
