Concerns Raised Over India-China Border Tensions

In New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has raised concerns regarding the recent clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh. He has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the actual situation facing the nation and called for an end to the government's leniency towards China. Kharge has posed three critical questions related to national security, economic safety, and diplomatic accountability, demanding responses from the government.

The Congress party has criticized the central government over the alleged confrontations at the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. On October 23, Kharge expressed his views on the social media platform X, stating that the government should stop giving China a clean chit. He insisted that the truth about the current border situation should be disclosed to the public, emphasizing that the government must not keep the nation in the dark.

Kharge highlighted the issue of national security, expressing concern over the ongoing tensions along the India-China border. He noted that the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) confirmed clashes with the Chinese army in Arunachal Pradesh, which he deemed a serious matter. He questioned whether a new confrontation has arisen between India and China following the incidents at Doklam and Galwan.

Additionally, Kharge pointed out that reports of Chinese incursions near the Tsangying area in Arunachal Pradesh surfaced in August. Despite 47 days passing since core commander-level talks in Wacha-Damai, reports of continued clashes have emerged. He questioned whether there has been any compromise on India's rights to patrol the area and demanded clarity from the government regarding the ongoing developments at the border.

On the economic security front, Kharge criticized the central government for the increasing trade and imports between India and China. He highlighted that following the supreme sacrifice of 20 Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley during the fiscal year 2020-21, imports from China surged by 102%. He noted that during the same period, India's trade deficit with China escalated by 155%, reaching $112.16 billion.

Referencing these statistics, Kharge questioned the government's 'Make in India' initiative, asking whether this initiative aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing is now leading to increased dependence on imports from China. He linked economic security to national interests and demanded clarity on the status of India-China trade relations from the government.

It is noteworthy that the ITBP's Director General, Shatrujeet Kapoor, recently mentioned the long-standing confrontations between India and China. His statement included references to the face-offs between troops at the Arunachal Pradesh border, sparking political controversy and prompting Congress to seek accountability from the central government regarding border security and relations with China.

In light of these developments, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has presented three key issues to the central government: the security situation at the Arunachal Pradesh border, the growing trade deficit with China, and the government's accountability regarding border incidents. The Congress party insists that the Prime Minister must clarify these matters to the nation.
