Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of Congress, has chosen not to celebrate his birthday this year. He emphasized that this day is not for festivities but rather a moment to demand accountability from the government and to restore democracy.

Kharge strongly condemned the police's use of batons and tear gas against students during their democratic protests. He asserted that the future of the nation and its children requires justice rather than government oppression.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Kharge announced his decision to forgo any celebrations on his birthday. Nevertheless, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to Congress leaders, workers, supporters, and well-wishers who extended their good wishes to him. He noted that the affection from the public holds significant importance for him.

Kharge expressed sorrow over the recent incidents where peaceful democratic protests were suppressed.

Questions Raised in Parliament

As the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge questioned why force was used against students demanding justice, why Parliament was nearly sealed, and why internet services were disrupted. He also highlighted the ongoing issue of paper leaks affecting millions of youth and demanded accountability for this situation.

Kharge has called for an immediate and comprehensive discussion in Parliament on this serious matter.

Demand for Minister's Resignation

The Congress President reiterated his demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating that he should take moral and political responsibility for the situation. Kharge advocated for an education system that is free from political interference, independent, and merit-based.

He also insisted that students should have a legal right to re-examinations and compensation in cases of examination fraud. Notably, Kharge was born on July 21, 1942, and he is the first Congress President in two decades not from the Gandhi family.
