Congress Meeting Highlights Concerns Over Women's Reservation Bill

During a recent meeting of the Congress Working Committee, party leader Mallikarjun Kharge expressed concerns regarding the government's intentions behind the proposed constitutional amendment for women's reservation. He suggested that the government aims to pass this bill to gain political advantage in the upcoming assembly elections. Kharge pointed out that discussions have emerged about increasing the number of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies by 50 percent, warning that such a redistricting proposal could have serious implications and requires thorough deliberation.

Kharge criticized the Modi administration for calling a parliamentary session starting April 16, claiming the sole purpose is to secure political gains, which he argues violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He emphasized the urgency with which the government seeks to pass the constitutional amendment bill, stating that the proposed changes could significantly impact the electoral framework of the country.

He further stated that following this meeting, the Congress will collaborate with opposition allies to formulate a unified strategy on these issues. The meeting, chaired by Kharge, included prominent figures such as former party president Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Telangana Chief Minister E. Rajender Reddy.
