Congress President Calls for Resignation of Modi and Shah Amid National Herald Case
Political Fallout from National Herald Case
On Wednesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge referenced a Delhi court's refusal to acknowledge the Enforcement Directorate's charges against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five others in the National Herald case. He asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should resign.
Kharge further alleged that the case was initiated as a form of political revenge aimed at harassing the Gandhi family.
The court's decision, which occurred on Tuesday, denied the ED's request to take cognizance of the money laundering allegations against the Congress leaders.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge stated, 'This case is politically motivated... It has been filed to harass the Gandhi family. There is nothing substantial, and no FIR has been registered.'
He emphasized that following the verdict in the National Herald case, both Modi and Shah should step down, declaring, 'This decision is a slap in the face of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah. They should resign to ensure they do not continue to harass the public in the future.'
Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi commented on the misuse of investigative agencies, citing the National Herald case as a prime example. He noted that there has been no financial transaction or transfer of property, raising questions about the validity of the money laundering claims.
Singhvi added, 'The National Herald case is not only driven by malice but is also filled with negligence. The ruling that came yesterday reflects the ultimate impact of the Constitution under pressure from those in power.'
