Congress President Accuses Government of Targeting Students Amid Protests

On Friday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of taking retaliatory actions against students. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Kharge referenced the violent crackdown on protesting students in Delhi on July 20, stating that the government had previously suppressed youth movements with 'batons and pellet guns.' He claimed that now, following the students' decision to withdraw their protests, they are facing police complaints and forced detentions.

Kharge remarked, 'The youth had agreed to end their protests on the condition that no actions would be taken against them, but the government has gone back on its word.' He further alleged that the authorities are shutting down young people's social media accounts and disclosing personal information about girls. The Congress leader criticized Amit Shah for not appearing in Parliament and avoiding accountability. He concluded by stating, 'The tactics to save face will no longer work; the youth are aware of the truth.' Kharge urged the Prime Minister, 'If you have any shame left, ask for Amit Shah's resignation.'
