Congress Leader's Allegations Against the Government
On Friday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the central government, claiming that despite the protests regarding the NEET paper leak case coming to an end, the government is retaliating against students by filing FIRs and detaining them. He called for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly. In a post on social media, Kharge accused the BJP-led government of going back on its promise that no action would be taken against protesters once they ceased their demonstrations related to the NEET paper leak.
Kharge stated, "Prime Minister Modi, just ten days ago, your government used batons, sticks, and pellet guns against the youth." He referred to the 'Parliament Chalo' march led by the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) on July 20 and the nationwide protests by students. Kharge alleged that now, after students have withdrawn their protests, the government is filing FIRs against them out of a sense of vengeance and forcibly detaining them.
He emphasized that the youth had agreed to end their movement on the condition that no action would be taken against them; however, the government has reneged on its commitment. Kharge also claimed that social media accounts of young protesters are being blocked and that young women are being doxxed, with their personal information being made public. He accused the government of evading accountability, noting that Home Minister Amit Shah has not addressed this issue in Parliament.
Kharge remarked on the arrogance displayed by Home Minister Amit Shah, who has not even appeared in Parliament to respond to these issues. He asserted that such tactics to save face and protect one's image are no longer effective, as the youth have recognized the government's true nature. The Congress leader concluded by stating that if there is any sense of shame left, Amit Shah should be made to resign.
