Congress Plans Discussions with Opposition Allies Over Voter List Manipulation Allegations
Congress to Address Voter List Concerns
On Sunday, the Congress party announced its intention to engage in discussions with its opposition coalition, 'India', in the coming days. The aim is to formulate a unified response to allegations of voter list manipulation in several states.
Congress leader Pawan Khera stated that a public campaign has commenced against the alleged vote theft orchestrated by the Election Commission and the ruling BJP, with many individuals actively verifying their names on the voter lists. When asked if the party would demand a joint parliamentary committee on this issue, Khera refrained from making any commitments.
He mentioned, 'We are also in talks with our allies in the 'India' coalition. We will reconvene with them in the next two or three days to return with a collective strategy.' When questioned about the possibility of approaching the courts, the Congress spokesperson indicated that he could not comment on that at this moment.
Khera emphasized the need for a united stance on how to proceed in the future. Rahul Gandhi had previously cited an analysis of the voter list in a Karnataka constituency, alleging significant electoral fraud through collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission.
Khera raised concerns regarding the Election Commission, which has requested an affidavit from Gandhi regarding the vote theft allegations. He questioned whether the Commission doubts the validity of its own documents, stating, 'These documents belong to the Election Commission. Does it not trust its own records? They should first provide an affidavit regarding those documents.'
The Congress leader further challenged the Election Commission, asking, 'If proven true, will the Chief Election Commissioner resign? Can he provide us with a written assurance?' Khera also responded to the Commission's demand for Gandhi to apologize for the allegations, asserting, 'You commit theft, and we are expected to apologize? Now, your investigation will take place.'
