Congress Party Supports CBI Investigation into Vimal Negi's Death Amid Criticism

Congress Welcomes CBI Inquiry

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Congress Party has officially endorsed the High Court's decision to transfer the investigation of HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi's mysterious death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The party characterized this action as a “step towards truth and accountability,” but it is now facing backlash for what many perceive as a belated and opportunistic response to a case that has drawn significant public concern and sorrow.

A senior spokesperson for Congress, Naresh Chauhan, stated to the media, “The High Court’s ruling reinforces our trust in the justice system. We are hopeful that this CBI investigation will bring closure to the Negi family and restore public faith.”

However, this show of support has been met with skepticism and anger, especially on social media and community forums, where users have criticized the Congress-led state government for its initial lack of action and silence during the early stages of the investigation.

Critics have accused the party of neglecting the Negi family’s repeated calls for a thorough investigation. Many commenters suggested that the state government only changed its position after facing significant legal pressure and public outcry that prompted the court's involvement.

“Where was Congress when the family pleaded for justice months ago? Their silence was deafening. Now they seek credit for something they resisted until the court intervened,” remarked one user in response to the official statement shared online.

Another user questioned the sincerity of their support: “Is this genuine support for justice, or merely damage control after being called out for ignoring harassment claims in a state-run PSU?”

The opposition has voiced similar concerns, accusing Congress of trying to “whitewash” a failure in governance. A BJP leader commented that “Congress not only overlooked the family’s pleas but also fostered a culture of silence and suppression within HPPCL. Their endorsement of the CBI probe comes too late.”

Despite the political backlash, Congress insists it will fully cooperate with the CBI. However, the shadow of its previous inaction continues to affect its narrative.

As the CBI prepares to review digital evidence and witness statements under judicial oversight, the Negi case stands as a critical test of justice and a reflection of the political will and responsiveness of those in power when it was most needed.
