Congress Party Demands Justice for Balasore Student with Silent Prayer
Silent Prayer for Justice
In Bhubaneswar, the Congress party held a one-minute silent prayer on Thursday to honor the memory of a 20-year-old female student from Balasore who tragically took her own life by self-immolation.
Party leaders and supporters participated in this solemn event at the state headquarters and various locations, including educational institutions and local party offices.
Bhakta Charan Das, the President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), attended a memorial gathering, known as 'Shradhanjali Sabha', in front of Utkal University.
Das informed the media, stating, "We encouraged the public, especially students, to join us in a one-minute prayer for justice at 9 am on Thursday. This was a symbolic gesture held across different venues and educational establishments."
Given that the victim was a student, the gathering at Utkal University was particularly significant, he noted.
Additionally, the party introduced a mobile application aimed at addressing the grievances of women in the state.
Minakshi Bahinipati, the president of the OPCC women's wing, explained, "On the 'Ekadashah' of the Balasore victim, we launched this app to assist women in distress. We developed it because many times, police fail to respond to the concerns of women who have suffered from rape and other forms of violence."
She emphasized that the party remains committed to advocating for women's rights and ensuring justice for them.
The B.Ed student from FM College in Balasore set herself on fire on July 12 and succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on July 14.
