Renuka Chowdhury's Strong Remarks Against Kiren Rijiju

On Tuesday, Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury launched a fierce critique against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, labeling him as "incompetent." This statement came after Rijiju criticized the opposition for allegedly obstructing parliamentary proceedings regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Chowdhury accused the central government of failing to manage the house effectively.

Chowdhury expressed, "If you are incompetent, what can we do? If you can't manage, should we remain silent? Do they expect us to just say 'yes sir' and 'no sir'? That won't work. We are MPs, and it is our duty to voice the concerns of the people." Her remarks were a direct response to Rijiju's assertion that while all concerns are valid, using them to disrupt parliamentary proceedings is inappropriate.

The Union Minister stated that while every issue holds significance, employing them as tools to paralyze Parliament is unacceptable. He mentioned, "We will engage with opposition leaders. I am already in contact with them... We do not underestimate their concerns, but there are multiple issues facing the country." On the second day of the winter session, the Lok Sabha proceedings were suspended until 2 PM due to disruptions caused by opposition MPs regarding the special intensive review of voter lists. Speaker Om Birla called for a meeting with opposition leaders and ministers to restore order in the house.

Meanwhile, Chowdhury also criticized the central government's mandate to pre-install the Communication Companion app on mobile phones, deeming it a threat to national security. She remarked that the introduction of Pegasus surveillance technology has not been effectively controlled, with MPs and MLAs claiming their phones are being tapped. For the past 11 years, the fundamental rights of Indians have been eroded, which she believes poses a genuine threat to national security. Chowdhury had also submitted a suspension motion regarding the Communication Companion app in the Rajya Sabha.
