Congress MP Accuses BJP-RSS of Misappropriating Donations for Ayodhya Temple

Congress MP K.C. Venugopal has accused the BJP-RSS of misappropriating donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling for an independent investigation led by a Supreme Court judge. He criticized the government's regulations that allow unregistered groups like the RSS to operate without oversight while imposing strict rules on registered trusts. Venugopal highlighted that the current FIR seems to protect senior trustees, targeting only lower-level officials. The situation escalated with the resignation of key trustees following allegations of donation theft. This unfolding controversy raises significant questions about accountability and transparency in the management of temple funds.

Allegations of Donation Misuse

On Friday, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal leveled serious allegations against the BJP-RSS regarding the misappropriation of donations intended for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He called for an independent investigation under the supervision of a current Supreme Court judge. Venugopal expressed on social media that the revelations about the theft of donations for the temple have exposed the so-called protectors of Hinduism. He claimed that recent reports indicate that funds donated for the temple have been misappropriated, undermining the BJP-RSS's assertions of safeguarding Hindu interests.

Criticism of Government Regulations

Criticizing the central government, he pointed out that while strict regulations under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) are imposed on registered trusts, unregistered groups like the RSS operate without any oversight. Venugopal stated that after exploiting Ayodhya for their divisive politics, the BJP-RSS has plundered the donations from ordinary devotees, mocking their sentiments. He emphasized that while the BJP seeks to control registered trusts through stringent FCRA rules, unregistered entities like the RSS are free to exploit the temples in the country.

Concerns Over FIR and Accountability

The Congress leader further noted that the current FIR appears to protect senior trustees while targeting only lower-level officials. He asserted that the facade of the RSS family being true Hindus has been further exposed, as the FIR does not even name the trustees responsible for managing the temple funds. Instead, the UP police's SIT has only identified lower-level officials, leaving the higher-ups involved in this significant racket untouched.

Call for Supreme Court Investigation

Venugopal insisted that only an independent investigation led by a current Supreme Court judge could uncover the true extent of the temple's looting. Earlier on Friday, sources indicated that Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, and trustee Anil Mishra had reportedly resigned, taking moral responsibility for the alleged theft of donations. These resignations came after an FIR was filed regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
